Now this is one topic that I don't claim to be an expert on. I have tried a few diets over the years from the military diet to the ketogenic diet. When i was recovering, it was important to try and keep a balanced diet. This proved even harder during periods on heavier medication. One side effect of one medication I was taking was carb loading. I was hungry all the time. I gained a lot of weight at these times. My diet today is fairly balanced but i still love sweets and a drink or two.
When it comes to alcohol - if i do drink I have made it a rule over many years to drink 4 glasses of water just before bed. I take a medication that has been very effective over the years, but a side effect is that it dehydrates me more than the average person. If you are on medication, whether it be mood stabilisers, anti psychotics or anti depressants, learn about the interactions with alcohol and food consumption. Diet and medication will affect everyone differently. And of course, talk to your Doctor before making any medication adjustments.
In a world where diet fads are common place and promoted till the cows come home, I have yet to find a better description than the old food pyramid that I grew up with.
